Google Earth is a virtual globe, map and geographical information program. That was originally called EarthViewer 3D created by Keyhole, Inc. The desktop version of Google Earth requires Windows 7 or newer, Intel Pentium 4 processor or later, 512MB of RAM and 1GB of free hard disk space. The mobile apps are available for Android and iOS devices. The browser plug-in was first supported on Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2, Safari 3 and Chrome 5. Microsoft Edge, Opera 10+ and other browsers are not supported.

In September 2007, Google Earth launched a new layer called WikiLayer which allows users to view Wikipedia content on the map. In October 2007,app added a flight simulator game which allows users to fly a virtual airplane around the world.
